1770: A Town Being Impacted by Community Chaplaincy

Many haven’t heard of the cuddly coastal Queensland town of Seventeen Seventy, sometimes written 1770. Perched between Bundaberg to the south and Rockhampton to the north 1770 and it’s nearby sister community of Agnes Waters are home to around 3000 people made up of retirees, sun-seekers and those working in the thriving Queensland mining industry.

Cam Butler recently spoke with one of 1770’s community leaders Todd Schultz. Todd was an early adopter of the Urbanrevs Online Training back in 2020.

During a harrowing heart attack where he was clinically dead for 28 minutes, Todd, a “somewhat dispassionate” follower of Jesus heard God speak to his heart about serving him afresh to those who have never heard or known the grace and mercy of Jesus. You can watch the 7News feature on his story here.

A little unsure of how that was to look Todd completed the Urbanrevs community chaplaincy training and established a local community drop-in centre Chappy House. Chappy House began with a mission to spread the love and compassion of Jesus, to create a place where people feel welcomed and supported in their time of need.

Todd said, “Chappy House aspires to be a genuine beacon of hope & support in the 1770 Agnes Waters community.” further adding, “God has blessed this mission. People are finding genuine connection, discovering more about Jesus and his love for them.” “I have to say that God’s been so good to me. I take every pleasure, together with my wife and church community to serve him at Chappy House.”

Todd let Cam Butler know that all his Church helpers and volunteers undertake the Urbanrevs training. “It has made such a difference to people “how to” share and present Jesus in a way that’s both intentional and authentic.” As a result Chappy House has been making a powerful impact for the Kingdom in 1770 Agnes Waters.

Thank You

Todd went on to say a big thank you to Urbanrevs for seeding their ministry, “I am so excited to share this story with you Cam. And so grateful for you and the Urbanrevs training.” saying, “You just don’t know the impact you have had on this little community in regional Queensland.” “Thank you.”
